Who Makes a Good Facilitator

If you are already involved in health education or healthcare, you may be an excellent facilitator because of your experience and interest in healthy behaviors and lifestyles. You might even be a successful graduate from our Freedom From Smoking® program! Your tobacco-free lifestyle or personal victory over smoking could be the turning point that inspires others to choose a healthier life. 

We seek individuals who are: 

  • Empathetic, motivational, and optimistic
  • Organized and have good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willing to be adaptable to support those who may be struggling with their quit journey
  • Tobacco-free and nicotine-free for 12 months or longer (including e-cigarettes, vaping devices and non-tobacco oral nicotine products)

About Facilitator Training

The Freedom From Smoking® Facilitator Training course is designed to educate individuals on the basics of tobacco use, proven-effective strategies to help people quit, mastery of the science-backed evidence-based Freedom From Smoking® program curriculum and enhanced facilitation skills to host group cessation classes within their communities and beyond.

You will learn how to:

  • Identify different tobacco products on the market, including e-cigarettes and vaping devices
  • Recognize effects of tobacco use on the human body and brain
  • Recognize types of resistance to change in conducting brief interventions
  • Utilize Motivational Interviewing to resolve uncertainty
  • Determine FDA-approved quit medications to help individuals break their tobacco dependency
  • Use experiential learning methods to increase the effectiveness of group sessions
  • Utilize supplemental enhancements and resources to further support group participants
