On February 22nd, 2018, at the age of 55, I was diagnosed with Stage IV EGFR lung cancer. I had a pain in my hip that turned out to be lung cancer. It was a complete shock to me as I have never smoked a day in my life! I was sent to a hospitall in Gainesville, Florida and have received the very best care for the past two and a half years. I am presently being treated with a targeted therapy pill called Tagrisso. Thanks to lung cancer research, this Tagrisso has been found and is positively impacting my prognosis and has allowed me to return to teaching at Suntree Elementary.
As a result of my lung cancer diagnosis, my husband and I have become committed to lung cancer advocacy and have become deeply involved in the American Lung Association Lung Force.
