In January 2016 my best friend and partner told me he was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. Together we have over 50 years of law enforcement experience and had been working together for over 10 years. I vowed to be with him every step of the way as he bravely fought this disease. On May 23, 2019, he passed away surrounded by his family and friends. While his memorial was being planned I started coughing up blood. It lasted for just three days. A few days after his memorial a mass was found on my right lung. A biopsy was performed and I was diagnosed with Stage 2 lung cancer. Surgery was scheduled for July and the plan was to remove the tumor and hopefully only take two lobes of my right lung at the most. During surgery, the tumor was found to be to wrap around the artery and my right lung was removed. 51 lymph nodes were tested and only two had been found with cancer. After a few months of chemo, a scan revealed no cancer! My partner taught me to fight and my family supported me in this fight!
