In June 2018, I was forced to find a new PCP due to my previous one retiring and his office actually closing. When I found one that was local I made the appointment to be a new patient and get that initial check up. When I told him of my breast cancer in 2009 and I needed a bilateral mastectomy due to at least 3 masses found, the new PCP said I had to have a low dose CT Scan done. It was pretty much arranged within a couple days, it was a quick easy process doing the CT Scan. Two days later I found out I did have Lung Cancer, a 2.8 nodule in my top portion my right lung.
Knowing it was cancer I still had to go through the biopsy which for me was very stressful, then surgery was scheduled. The top portion of the lung removed. I had a 7 day stay in the hospital then a month later I did pulmonary rehab twice a week for 8 weeks. Every 6 months my lung doctor sends me for a low dose CT Scan which truly are life savers.
Please don’t let your doctor send you for chest X-rays, that’s not good enough, they would never catch early lung cancer. In fact my mammogram for my breast did not catch my breast cancer either. With breast and lung cancer in the family a CT Scan is what’s needed. I hope my story helps.
