In June 2014 I started coughing up a lot of blood and saw some when I blew my nose. I went to the doctor and was told that the problem was in my sinuses. The bleeding continued so I went to the emergency room where I was told the same thing. This went on for three weeks. I then went to the Ben Taub emergency room and told them what was going on with my body and, because of the bleeding nose, they admitted me. They did five tests on me and found a mass on my left lung. A biopsy revealed it to be cancer! More tests determined that it was in the early stages.
My left lung and eighteen lymph nodes were removed on September 5. I was in ICU for 31 days, then moved to a rehabilitation hospital. I still had the breathing tube in my neck. I stayed there for six weeks before I went home (smile). Next, I had three rounds of chemo and six weeks of radiation at the same time, and then six weeks of rehab at home. I go to the Smith Cancer Center every three months for labs and a CT scan. As of today (10-14-2015) I am cancer free (thank God)!
Doctors have told me that I almost left this world twice. They say 1 in 10 make it through all the things I've been through. Keep me in your prayers that I remain cancer free. Thank you!
