When you are diagnosed with a lung disease like COP, it is important to learn all you can about the condition and how to treat it.
Some of the first steps to take will include:
- Finding a specialist or healthcare provider to help you understand the severity, monitor the disease and determine your treatment options.
- Learn how your medication affects you and what side effects to expect if you have been prescribed medications by your healthcare provider.
- Protect your lungs by staying up to date with vaccinations recommended by your healthcare provider.
- Keep your lungs healthy by quitting smoking, eating healthy and staying active.
Connect With Others
It is important for you to have support from others. Joining an online or in-person support group can provide you with more opportunities to get information about your disease, empower you to manage your disease, and provide the support you need. Available programs and services through the American Lung Association include:
- Living with Lung Disease (Inspire online support community)
- Better Breathers Clubs (in-person and virtual support groups)
- Freedom From Smoking (in person or virtual quit smoking programs)
