American Lung Association Welcomes New CDC Leadership; Looks Forward to Working Together to Improve Lung Health

Dr. Mandy Cohen was sworn in as the director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The American Lung Association President and CEO Harold Wimmer issued the following statement regarding this announcement:

“The director of the CDC is a critical position to lead lung disease prevention, tobacco control, environmental health and many other areas that are critical to reducing the burden of lung disease and lung cancer for people across the nation. The CDC is a crucial partner of the American Lung Association in all areas of our important work to help everyone breathe easier. 

“In her role as the Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Dr. Cohen was a champion for quality and affordable healthcare, focused on ensuring equal access to care and lead the state’s COVID-19 response. It will benefit the national agency to have someone with her deep experience from the state level to help address both infectious disease and chronic disease. 

“The American Lung Association welcomes Dr. Cohen to the CDC and looks forward to working with her to improve the lung health of everyone in the United States.”
