To fund lifesaving research, prevent lung disease and save lives, the American Lung Association in Georgia is hosting the 19th annual Fight For Air Climb Atlanta on Saturday, May 3. Hundreds of participants, including firefighters and first responders, will scale 40 stories of Promenade Tower, one of the city’s tallest skyscrapers.
“For nearly two decades, the Atlanta community has climbed to raise awareness and critical funding to support the more than 1.6 million Georgians who live with lung disease and honor loved ones we have lost,” said Tyler McCurry, member of the Lung Association’s Georgia Leadership Board, and national sales director at Circulogene. “We invite everyone to join us on the stairs and step up for healthy lungs and clean air. Because when you can’t breathe, nothing else matters.”
For the second year, the Lung Association will award the “Dr. Gerald Staton, Jr. Fundraising Award” to the highest individual fundraiser. Dr. Staton, who passed away in November 2023, was a preeminent pulmonologist and steadfast supporter of the Lung Association. He joined the very first Fight For Air Climb Atlanta and raised thousands of dollars for lung health.
A unique highlight of the Fight For Air Climb Atlanta is the large firefighter and first responder presence. Last year, more than 150 area firefighters participated, most in turnout gear weighing more than 50 pounds. During the Quick Dress Firefighter Competition, presented by City of Hope Cancer Center Atlanta, firefighters will race to dress in their gear with top finishing times ranging between 20 to 25 seconds.
The Fight For Air Climb Atlanta is designed for every type of participant, from beginners to competitive climbers. With 40 floors and more than 800 stairs, Promenade Tower in Midtown Atlanta is the perfect setting for a day of fun, challenge and camaraderie.
The Lung Association is proud to serve our community and the more than 1.6 million Georgians living with lung disease and lung cancer. Our mission has never been more critical. We are researching new treatments and cures, tackling the youth vaping epidemic, protecting the air we all breathe and helping people live healthier lives. Your support fuels our mission and deepens our local impact.
Registration for the Fight For Air Climb Atlanta is open for individuals and teams, which can include friends, families, companies and organizations. For more information, visit ClimbAtlanta.org.
