SATURDAY: Hundreds Hit the Sand at Folly Beach for Annual LUNG FORCE Run/Walk to End Lung Cancer

Every step helps raise awareness about the importance of lung health

Nearly 400 Lowcountry residents will lace up their sneakers and head to Folly Beach this Saturday, October 17, for the American Lung Association in South Carolina’s LUNG FORCE Run/Walk. The event kicks off at 9 a.m., bringing the community together as one mighty force for lung health. The family-friendly run/walk will take place on the beach, with activities at the Dunes House. The event offers compelling opportunities for video, photos, and interviews with participants whose lives have been impacted by lung disease.

October is Healthy Lung Month, a time to spotlight the importance of lung health and preventing lung disease. Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S., but thanks to advances in research, early detection, and treatment, more people are surviving lung cancer than ever before. Lung cancer screening is key to saving lives because it can detect lung cancer early, when it’s more likely to be treatable. Yet only 18.8% of high-risk South Carolinians have been screened. South Carolinians can find out if they're eligible for a lung cancer screening by taking a two-minute quiz at SavedByTheScan.org
