Michigan Lung Association Elevates Civic Advocate to Board

Vanessa M. Cohen brings project management, community-centered initiatives experience to Local Leadership Board

Today, the American Lung Association in Michigan announced the appointment of Vanessa M. Cohen to the Local Leadership Board. Cohen, a seasoned civic advocate with a wealth of experience in project management and community-centered initiatives, will make an immediate impact by combining her expertise and passion to drive the mission of the Lung Association to help save lives.

“Being selected to join the Board is a powerful way for me to continue being a voice for underrepresented communities in Detroit and the state of Michigan,” said Cohen. “I’m committed to increasing awareness of lung health in our community and helping people take action to keep their lungs healthy. We all deserve to breathe clean air and have healthy lungs.”

Currently a Program Manager at Huntington National Bank, she leverages her banking experience to drive strategic initiatives that directly impact the community, customer, and colleagues. Additionally, Cohen leads both a mentorship program with the African American Business Resource Group and the Southeast Michigan / Northwest Ohio Inclusion Council, which promotes regional pride and fosters a culture where every colleague feels valued and represented.

"Vanessa’s impressive background on enhancing environments and fostering inclusion aligns perfectly with our mission to create healthier lives for all. Her expertise in DEI and mentoring programs at Huntington National Bank and her vibrant community presence make her an invaluable addition,” said Shannon Proctor, Executive Director of the American Lung Association in Michigan. "We are extremely proud to welcome Vanessa and her deep commitment to our lifesaving mission to our board."
