Federal Priorities for the 119th Congress

As the 119^th Congress begins, our nation continues to face significant challenges that affect our lungs and overall health. The rise in chronic disease rates, respiratory viruses and record-breaking extreme weather events show how important it is to have strong systems in place to prevent lung disease, improve care and respond quickly during emergencies. These challenges to a healthier future demand action to protect the health and safety of communities across the country.  

Solutions to these challenges may become more elusive depending on the stability of the federal workforce. Federal employees play a critical role in helping track lung diseases, review treatments for chronic illnesses, ensure the most effective disease prevention programs are implemented and enforce protections that keep our air clean. 

The American Lung Association's Federal Priorities for the 119th Congress identifies specific major federal legislative and administrative actions to take to protect public health and improve lung health for the more than 35 million people in the U.S. living with lung disease. The Federal Priorities for the 119th Congress is based on the Lung Association's Public Policy Positions and follows the priorities laid out in our Public Policy Agenda.

Now is the time for Congress and the Administration to take meaningful action. By addressing these challenges, we can help everyone breathe easier and live healthier lives.
