Climate change is of concern to me because it is impacting so many people locally and around the world. As a women's health nurse practitioner, I am especially concerned about the impact on women and girls. The change in the atmosphere is increasing weather related disasters, famine related to inability to grow food for one's family or others, and lack of water for drinking, cooking, irrigation, and hygiene. The burden is felt most by women who must travel ever further to obtain water for washing and cooking the family meals. The lack of water resources and natural disasters that leave families homeless leads to displacement. Women and girls who must travel alone or to distant areas are vulnerable to assault and being trafficked.
