When she was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer, Christy F. made a choice to tackle the disease by embracing a positive outlook and a determined mindset. Her unwavering faith, positive energy and desire to make a difference became instrumental as she faced lung cancer. As a competitive athlete her whole life, she approached the diagnosis like a competition, focusing on her chance of survival.
According to Christy, “From my husband who accompanies me to every appointment to friends and family who regularly reach out with support, I cherish the love I’ve been so fortunate to receive.”
Christy’s optimism has led her to consider research as an integral part of the journey, fueling her desire to be part of finding a cure. Over the past 17 years, she has participated in various clinical trials. Upon learning the lung cancer survival rate has increased by over 50% in the past decade, Christy feels a proud sense of satisfaction, “It makes me happy to know I’ve played a role in this progress.”
Christy views clinical trials as “an opportunity to contribute to research, develop new treatments and benefit future cancer patients.” She explained that significant advancements in treatments, such as targeted therapies and immunotherapy, have been achieved through clinical trials and continue to drastically improve patients’ quality of life.

Through her story, Christy wants to encourage strength to those navigating their own cancer journeys. According to Christy, “It’s important to me to increase awareness about lung cancer in order to raise the bar for future research and patient advocacy.”
