Kathryn V. Blake, PharmD, is the director of the Nemours Center for Pharmacogenomics and Translational Research, and a principal research scientist for Nemours Children’s Health. She is associate professor of pharmacy, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. She received her BS in zoology from the University of North Carolina and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Florida. She completed a residency and fellowship in pulmonary pharmacotherapy at the University of Florida. She is board certified in pharmacotherapy.
Dr. Blake has been a PI since 1999 for the American Lung Association Airways Clinical Research Centers Network (ALA-ACRC), the NIH funded AsthmaNet from 2015 to 2017, and the IGNITE (Implementing GeNomics In PracTicE) network since 2015. She is the director for the ALA-ACRC Biorepository housed at the Nemours, Delaware facility. This biorepository will house 500,000 specimens collected by the Lung Health Cohort Study conducted by the ALA-ACRC. She has been a PI or Co-I on over 100 clinical trials. Dr. Blake has received funding from NIH for a K23 award in asthma pharmacogenomics and two R01 awards for studies of asthma adherence and streamlining pediatric clinical trials. She is PI of the NIH funded MATCH trial that is currently being conducted by the ALA-ACRC network. She also received funding from ALA to evaluate a digital diary completed by parents to track respiratory tract infections in young children.
Currently, Dr. Blake directs the Pharmacogenomics Clinical Service Program at Nemours Children’s Health across four institutions located in Delaware and Florida. She has served on several federal committees. From 2018 to 2020, she served on the NHLBI Working Group, a federal advisory committee, to update the existing EPR-3 Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma. She has served on the FDA Pulmonary and Allergy Drugs Advisory Committee. She is currently an NIH appointed member of the Interdisciplinary Clinical Care in Specialty Care Settings Study Section of the NIH Center for Scientific Review. She is chair of the Nemours Institutional Review Board and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, Research Advisory Council. Dr. Blake has over 130 publications in the areas of pediatric asthma and pharmacogenomics and 11 book chapters on asthma.
