Dr. Okan Elidemir is chief, pediatric pulmonology for Nemours Children’s Health, Pensacola, and professor of pediatrics at Florida State University School of Medicine. Prior to this, he was the medical director of pediatric pulmonology for Sacred Heart Health System, medical director of pediatric lung and heart/lung transplant programs at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas, and medical director of pediatric pulmonology at Greenville Hospital System in South Carolina. He has been practicing medicine for over 30 years.
Dr. Elidemir’s research experience in animal models of asthma and aspiration was recognized by CHEST Foundation in 2005 and he was given the prestigious Alfred Soffer Research Award. He published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, received grant awards from the American Heart Association and National Institutes of Health (NIH) for his research projects. Dr. Elidemir is a member of The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), The International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT), The American Thoracic Society (ATS), and a fellow of The American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP). He also serves as an editorial board member of the journal Pediatric Transplantation.
